END CITIZENS UNITED Fair Election Vigilantes!

A political action committee and nonprofit, End Citizens United is an organization working to reverse the US Supreme Court 2010 Decision in Citizens United v Federal Election Commission. The case was argued on March 24, 2009, and conveyed in court due to the non-profit End Citizens United wanting to air a film about Hilary Clinton and wanting to advertise the film during television broadcast which was a violation of the 2002 Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act which regulates the financing of political campaigns. The United States District Court for the District of Columbia prohibited Citizens United from advertising the film named “Hillary: The Movie” in broadcasts or paying to have it broadcasted on shows for thirty days of the 2008 Democratic Primaries.

By the end of the case, the supreme court changed its decision and voided the provisions of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act which kept corporations and nonprofits from interfering with electioneering communications. Although they reversed their decision, the court ordered that it be required of companies and nonprofits to disclose to the public by sponsors of advertisements. The case did not, however, disband or involve the federal ban on direct contributions from corporations or unions to candidates in campaigns or other political parties. The ability for corporations to influence candidates is still illegal, but now it is legal for corporations and nonprofits to change the public opinion of candidates with media and other measures of a broadcast.

End Citizens United is now focused on taking big money out of politics with the goal to elect “campaign-finance reform champions” or candidates who will not be able to be bought away from being loyal to the American public. They run independent fund rases to contribute to congressional candidates who meet their criteria which they would help fund. The nonprofit was funded in 2015, operating during its first election term during 2016 raising more than 25 million USD in funding.

Being one of the most successful grassroots donor-funded political action committee in America, End Citizens United has been unbeaten in all of their endeavors combating sizeable political funding groups which illegitimate fair elections. In today’s society, votes can sway in the direction of the money, and the never-ending fight for fair elections in America, End Citizens United is the Vigilantes of big money election persuasion.
